Position Description

Shady Side Academy's Junior School is seeking an interim music teacher for the school year. This position would begin as soon as possible and would last until June 9th. There may be an opportunity for the teacher to join Shady Side Academy as a faculty member if the interim assignment is deemed successful by the Junior School leadership team. An adept music teacher engages students in meaningful learning experiences that meet their students' needs and helps them develop the confidence to take risks. Shady Side's teachers cultivate academic skill development and support students' social-emotional growth. This applicant will work collaboratively within a team of child-focused educators and will have a deep commitment to this important time in a student's educational journey.

Primary Responsibilities 

Teaches general music to students in grades Pre-K- 5. Keeps students at the center of their decision making and instructional practice. Collaborates with colleagues supporting endeavors that benefit the larger community, including school-wide/grade level productions and performances. Cultivates positive partnerships with parents through consistent and transparent communication about their child's progress. Utilizes the Responsive Classroom approach and desires to cultivate an emotionally safe educational environment for their students. Utilizes instructional strategies that are engaging, research-supported, and meet students' individual needs. Has experience with music and vocal pedagogy for children. Possesses the ability to arrange and compose music, and can play the piano and/or guitar Makes connections with musicians and music organizations to provide unique and diverse music experiences for our students.  Collaborates with arts colleagues at other Shady Side campuses to share ideas and to create multi-school arts experiences. Integrates music in new and creative ways to enhance the student learning experiences outside of music class and throughout the entire community. Performs extra duties such as arrival/dismissal duties, as needed. Attends all faculty meetings, in-service days, and teacher team meetings. Completes other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Head and/or Assistant Head of the Junior School.Qualifications

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in elementary music education is required. Ideal candidates have experience working with elementary school students, a flexible and team-oriented approach, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, superior interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a positive demeanor.
