The Senior Data Visualization Engineer serves as the lead technical expert responsible for transforming complex data into clear, actionable visual insights that support strategic decision-making across the Air Force Small Business enterprise.
This role designs, develops, and maintains advanced dashboards, analytical models, visual reporting tools, and data products that enable leadership to monitor performance, assess trends, evaluate industrial base dynamics, and drive data-informed strategies.
The Engineer plays a central role in advancing an analytics-driven culture and enhancing enterprise transparency through intuitive, accurate, and impactful visual solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesDashboard & Visualization Development
- Design and build interactive dashboards, visual reports, and data products using platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
- Create intuitive visual frameworks that communicate trends, performance metrics, and key insights to senior leadership.
- Apply data storytelling principles to present complex information in a clear, visually compelling manner.
- Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple systems, repositories, and enterprise platforms.
- Develop data models, calculations, and measures that support advanced reporting and analytical outputs.
- Partner with analysts, IT personnel, and stakeholders to improve data integration, validation, and accessibility.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis, trend assessments, and statistical evaluations to support mission objectives.
- Provide analytical recommendations and executive-ready insights to inform planning, resource allocation, and program prioritization.
- Support simulations, forecasting, and performance monitoring activities.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data visualizations and reporting outputs.
- Document methodologies, definitions, data sources, and assumptions to ensure transparency and repeatability.
- Identify data quality issues and support remediation efforts.
- Work closely with leadership, program managers, SMEs, and mission partners to define requirements and deliver tailored visual products.
- Support briefings, presentations, and executive reviews with high-quality visuals and analytical content.
- Provide training, guidance, and user support for dashboards and visualization tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Analytics, or related field; Master's preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in data visualization, analytics, business intelligence, or related fields.
- Proven expertise with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency with SQL, and familiarity with Python, R, DAX, or similar analytical languages.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex datasets and communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, visualization design, and usability best practices.
- Secret Clearance
- Experience supporting DoD, Air Force, or federal analytics programs.
- Background in performance measurement, forecasting, or operational analytics.
- Knowledge of acquisition, small business programs, supply base analytics, or enterprise reporting.
- Experience working in secure or compliance-driven IT environments.
