Woodshop/Sculpture Area Technician/Safety Monitor

Reporting to the department chair or sculpture faculty of the Art and Art History department, this part-time position is approximately 10 hours per week over three eleven-week academic terms. The three shifts per week are Monday and Wednesday evenings, and Sunday afternoons.

• Woodshop technician for college art department. Primary responsibility is instructing students in the safe use of woodshop equipment.
• Monitor shop open hours to ensure safe use of woodshop equipment.
• Coordinate and facilitate woodshop practicums for art students, including a series of short workshops covering basic skills and technical exercises.
• Monitor condition of equipment; facilitate equipment maintenance and repairs; make arrangements for outside repairs when necessary.
• Secondary responsibilities include organization of equipment and supplies in the sculpture area.
• Facilitate the pick-up of materials for classes shop, as time allows.
• Assist with art department projects as time allows.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and will also demonstrate many of the following skills, abilities, and characteristics:

• Extensive woodworking experience and knowledge of current safety standards and practices required.
• Art background and/or education preferred.
• Ability to effectively instruct students with a wide range of skill levels required.
• Familiarity with welding and/or ceramics desirable, but not required.
• Some college education strongly preferred.
