MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to return the city's blighted and vacant properties to productive use. We utilize a variety of Sales programs to make homeownership and land purchases accessible to Detroiters. Plus, we take our commitment to revitalization one step further with our Compliance and Nuisance Abatement programs, requiring renovation and occupancy to improve neighborhoods, eliminate blight, and combat real estate speculation. The Detroit Land Bank Authority works directly with individual buyers, as well as Community Partner organizations and developers for projects big and small.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

The Sales & Programs Specialist supports the effective execution of the Detroit Land Bank Authority's (DLBA) property disposition programs, including Own It Now, Auction, Side Lot, and other Vacant Land offerings. This role is responsible for managing program workflows, conducting buyer outreach, ensuring eligibility compliance, and facilitating smooth transitions from application through closing. The ideal candidate is organized, customer-focused, and detail-oriented.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program & Pipeline Management

  • Manage daily workflow and performance of disposition programs (Own It Now, Auction, Side Lot, Deed, and Discount programs)
  • Conduct eligibility reviews and determine buyer qualification across programs
  • Ensure buyers are transitioned accurately and efficiently into the closing pipeline
  • Coordinate deed processing (HHF, Non-HHF), e-recording, and mailings

Customer Engagement & Support

  • Perform Welcome Calls to program participants to confirm next steps and answer questions
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for program inquiries via email, phone, and in-person
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while guiding buyers through the property acquisition process
  • Support property buyers, realtors, and external partners with accurate and timely programming information

Events & Community Engagement

  • Participate in community-facing sales events and annual outreach programs
  • Represent the DLBA professionally at District events and public meetings as needed

Team Collaboration & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records in DLBA systems and databases
  • Ensure all program actions comply with DLBA policies, guidelines, and federal/state housing regulations
  • Support Senior Sales & Programs Specialists and collaborate cross-functionally with other internal departments
  • Take on special projects and additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Urban Planning, Real Estate, Public Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and related work experience (real estate, housing, compliance, or economic/community development) will be considered
  • 2+ years of experience in real estate sales support, housing program administration, property closing, or client services

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Customer-first mindset with a high level of professionalism and empathy
  • Ability to interpret program guidelines, make decisions, and problem-solve effectively
  • Proven organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations and in community-centered environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Salesforce or property databases is a plus
