      DEFINITION: An Educational Audiologist is a health-related professional who specializes in prevention, identification, and treatment of hearing loss for children ages 3 to 21 in the school system. An educational audiologist can also provide hearing screenings for school-based Child Find programs.
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS at Ocotillo Learning Center and Child Find during School year:
  • Provide initial hearing screenings for children attending the Ocotillo Learning Center (including pre-school, K-1) and children being evaluated through Child Find.  Screenings will include any combination of pure tone behavioral hearing screenings, tympanometry, and optoacoustic emissions depending on abilities of child.
  • Provide 2nd hearing screens for those who fail initial hearing screens.
  • Make referrals as necessary for medical treatment or for comprehensive audio logic testing.
  • Correspond in writing with parents regarding any failed hearing screening and provide recommendations for appropriate referrals (e.g., medical referral or audio logic referral).
  • Assist school nurse in maintaining classroom hearing screening result list for each teacher.
  • Track all hearing screening results and report results of screenings to the Health Department at the end of the school year. 
  • Screen hearing for any child when there is teacher or parental concern.
TASKS for Summer Child Find Hearing Screenings:
  • Provide summer hearing screenings for children being evaluated though Child Find.  Screenings will include any combination of pure tone behavioral testing, tympanometry, and optoacoustic emissions depending on abilities of child.
  • Make referrals as necessary for medical treatment or for comprehensive audio logic testing.
  • Track results of all hearing screenings.

Skills required, but not limited to, for this position include:

• Using computer software related programs.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in an indoor environment.  Work requires frequent standing and motion.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
  • Licensed Audiologist in the state of Arizona;
  • AuD degree in Audiology or Masters or Ph.D. with clinical competence certificate (CCC) from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association
  • Experience as a licensed Audiologist working with the pediatric population for a minimum of 5 years.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
