LOCATION:

POSITION:  

LICENSED SPEECH & LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certification:
* Master's degree in Speech Pathology
* Licensed by the State Board of Examiner of Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist
Special Knowledge/Skills:
* Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
* Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of student to whom assigned
* Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, peers, parents and community
* Ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

To reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interferes with the individual student's ability to derive full benefits from the district's educational program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. 

  • Maintain case records on all referred students. 

  • Recommends corrective procedures. 

  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of students. 

  • Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary. 

  • Assists and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech-language impairments. 

  • Attends case conferences on placement of individual students. 

  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice hearing, and language impairment. 

  • Prepares and submits required reports on students with Speech-Language impairments. 

  • Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels. 

  • Provide proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate. 

  • Provide in-service training of school personnel.

  • Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student's needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps. 

  • Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. 

  • Keeps thorough on going records for the individual students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services. 

  • Compiles case history. 

  • Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Responsible for assigned students.

OTHER INFORMATION:
Salary: AJG 3
+ $5,000 stipend

Mental/Physical Demands and Environmental Factors:
Ability to interpret policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both verbal and written; maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to lift and carry 40+ lbs, and frequent district-wide travel.
