Youth Services Center

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Allen County Youth Services Center buildings and grounds

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for all janitorial duties of the facility, including, but not limited to cleaning restrooms, windows, floors, walls and carpets.
• Performs maintenance to all facility equipment, including, but not limited to power tools and mowers.
• Assists with lawn care, attending garden and tree removal.  Assists with snow removal.
• Performs plumbing maintenance and repairs to all sinks, drains, toilets and water related structures.
• Repairs and maintains all kitchen appliances and laundry equipment.
• Performs heating and air conditioning maintenance and repair.
• Provides building security by making sure that all panic devices, locks, door closures, windows and lighting are all secure.
• Performs electrical maintenance and repair for the facility.
• Builds curb appeal by walking grounds, removing trash and weeds and making sure that grounds are presentable and well lit.
• Completes all appropriate paperwork and maintains janitorial inventory, including monitoring and ordering stock, for the facility.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Specialized schooling beyond High School Diploma or GED and three years' experience in maintenance and/or janitorial work
• HVAC I and II certification preferred
• Driver's license to drive County van to pick up supplies
• Ability to prioritize tasks and use time wisely
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge in electrical, plumbing and combustion engine repair
• Ability to effectively and efficiently order and maintain supplies
• Ability to use drill, sawzall, jig saw, weed eater, lawn mower, zero turn mower, log splitter, power washer, vacuum, shop-vac, chop saw, hand held radio and other job related equipment

DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

The Maintenance Specialist performs work that is moderately complex when repairing and maintaining the Youth Service Center's equipment. Working knowledge of a variety of trades is required to perform electrical, plumbing and grounds maintenance and repair.

RESPONSIBILITY:

The Maintenance Specialist performs work that requires skill and care when assisting with lawn and garden care. Considerable independence is needed and judgment is needed to make decisions that affect the quality and adequacy of work.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

The Maintenance Specialist maintains frequent contact with other County employees, Youth Service Center residents and the public while maintaining the Allen County Youth Services Center.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Maintenance Specialist spends a majority of the time walking with some standing and little ability to sit down.  Some lifting of up to sixty pounds, bending, pushing/pulling, reaching overhead, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, mental visual effort and exposure to dangerous equipment, chemicals, noise and noxious odors.  The Maintenance Specialist does frequent detailed inspection and has frequent exposure to extreme temperature, with very frequent attention to detail and monitoring of equipment.

LICENSING:

HVAC I and II certification preferred

Driver's License to drive County van to pick up supplies

HOURS:

Monday – Friday; 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; 40 hours/week
