Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Lab Technician/Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. We are a values-based clinic that prioritizes the provider-patient relationship in a non-judgement setting, offering traditional western medicine combined with natural/holistic care options. Work environment is unique, caring and supportive. We are an ego-free clinic, patients always come first. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of duties while also acting as a resource and mentor for Junior staff. This role is designed for a highly competent MLT who is ready to assume greater responsibility and the possibility to grow into a formal leadership position, such as a Lead MLT or Laboratory Manager. Must be willing to travel to all of our clinic sites as necessary. Performs specimen collections per provider orders. Performs routine testing for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease, in accordance with clinical and governmental standards. Excellence is to be centered on patient care and patient relationships and is the responsibility of all employees.
Clinic Hours: Monday - Friday 8am-4pm, Saturday 8am-4pm.
Clinic Locations: Albertville, Alexandria, Blaine, Burnsville, Eden Prairie, North Branch. This position will primarily be out of our Eden Prairie location, with occasional quarterly visits to all clinic locations as needed.
Job Functions
- Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Perform testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient, quality focused, cost-effective manner. Any combination of the following areas may be included: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, Computer Operation, and Reception/Greet Station.
- Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately according to SOP.
- Perform and document maintenance procedures and maintain adequate supplies.
- Demonstrate competency and comply with all regulatory agency policies.
- Consistently implement and adhere to the laboratory customer service and patient experience standards. The standards include maintaining confidentiality, promoting teamwork, successful communication, and conflict resolution.
- Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs, and department/clinic changes.
- Demonstrate professional development through participation in continuing education, special projects and community / corporate / professional organizations. Demonstrate personal development through dependability, professional appearance, and cooperative attitude.
- Assists in orientation and training of new personnel as assigned to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed. Documents training on the training checklist.
- Participates in quality improvement activities, including analyzing proficiency testing samples, performs and documents quality control
- Prepares test orders and specimens for testing and/or transfer to reference laboratory.
- Maintains proper use of standard precautions, protective barriers, use of aseptic technique and disposal of infections/hazardous waste.
- Complies with applicable legislation such as OSHA and CLIA standards
- Escorts patients to examination room and obtains vitals and documents in EMR.
- Answers phone calls and retrieves patient conditions/concerns/questions and reports those to provider. Returns calls with providers recommendations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Qualified to work in a moderately complex laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
- Promote teamwork through demonstration of a courteous and cooperative attitude to all customers.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- EKG training or experience
- Phlebotomy training or experience
- Medical Assistant, EMT or previous laboratory experience
- At least 1 year of related experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $ $34.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
