General Summary

Plans, executes and reports on all philanthropy efforts including events, and selected annual giving and special gift projects and programs. Implements Planned Giving donor solicitation, cultivation and stewardship events, employee giving and grateful patient and estate giving activities in accordance with system plans. Provides leadership to Hospital Foundations as appropriate. Builds strong community relationships and enhances visibility in the community and the Hospital(s) for philanthropy. Works as one integrated philanthropy team to develop best practice philanthropic strategies, build a culture of philanthropy at WellSpan and build standard, efficient processes where appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists SVP Philanthropy in Planned Giving goal setting and implements goals for the system.
  • Develops and implements plans to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at all giving levels with the greatest potential, focusing on focus on Major Gifts and Estate Commitments. Maintains an active portfolio of donors and prospects
  • Implements a system plan to cultivate planned giving prospects and is responsible to grow the estate gift inventory in all regions.
  • Plans and implements Planned Giving/Estate Planning events in collaboration with each Regional Director and/or Development Director.
  • Resource Philanthropy colleagues with Planned Giving information, collateral, and support. Works collaboratively across the system to educate, guide, coach staff, leadership, volunteer leaders and board members on Planned Giving strategies and connections.
  • Provides input to the system solicitation, cultivation and stewardship plan and ensures adherence to same, including materials, information, collateral, mailings, and media.
  • Provides input to the system budget.
  • Ensures that accurate financial and donor record keeping and planned gift processes are adhered to.
  • Follows established fundraising and organizational policies for approval of foundation priorities and acceptance of gifts.
  • Encourages the integration of the foundation within the system and within the community through communication and active involvement.
  • Works collaboratively with the system development team to develop a common approach (Donor centric) to fundraising and to provide system-wide services which strengthen the capacity and efficiency of development while keeping donor contact locally oriented.
  • Responsible to follow system development policies and to educate the boards and volunteers toward the same.

Common Expectations:

  • Participates in planning long-term system philanthropy goals and strategies, assisting SVP of Philanthropy.
  • Attends events for Foundations and other fundraising activities as needed, as well as community events that offer the opportunity to promote the Hospital and/or planned giving fundraising.
  • May serve on the system fundraising committee to evaluate and recommend system wide policy or practice that will add value to donors, improve operational efficiency or otherwise improve results.
  • Maintains and follows established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Establishes relationships and collaboration with key allied professionals (Membership and involvement with York County Estate Planning Council and York County Leave a Legacy).
  • Membership in professional associations (i.e., National Council of Charitable Gift Planners and the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of CGP).

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 5 years of successful development implementation and volunteer leadership experience, including a track record with planned and estate gifts or equivalent required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem solving, analytical and judgement competencies.
  • Ability to perform computer applications skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge).Strong writing skills.
