Position Overview
The
Director of Nursing (DON)
will serve as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing all aspects of nursing operations and ensuring the highest standards of patient-centered care. This individual will guide and mentor nursing staff, promote a culture of clinical excellence, and drive performance improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a passion for behavioral health, a strong background in psychiatric nursing, and a commitment to fostering a supportive, safe, and healing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and day-to-day management for the nursing department across all service lines.
  • Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and performance standards in alignment with state and federal regulations.
  • Supervise and evaluate nursing staff; oversee scheduling, training, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with physicians, administrators, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing levels, and resource allocation with a focus on efficiency and safety.
  • Monitor compliance with infection control and safety standards; participate in quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
  • Lead and support initiatives to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Ensure all nursing staff maintain current licensure, certifications, and required education.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for nursing leaders and staff, fostering professional growth and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred, BSN required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a leadership or supervisory role, behavioral health settings required.
  • Current RN license in the State of Louisiana (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Strong knowledge of nursing standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • CPR certification required; crisis prevention or behavioral health de-escalation training preferred.
