Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Principal System Safety Engineer to develop and manage MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs. The role involves performing safety analyses, evaluations, and verifications of both hardware and software, ensuring safety throughout the product lifecycle from development to disposal. The engineer will collaborate with program management, government authorities, and cross-disciplinary teams, manage safety working groups, and deliver technical briefings and reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
- Perform system safety program tasks, including management, analysis, evaluation, and verification of hardware and software.
- Collaborate with program management and government authorities from project initiation through production and demilitarization.
- Brief safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process.
- Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
- Prepare internal and customer reports on system safety analyses and program activities.
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to understand product architecture and design.
- Interface with systems, software/firmware, electrical, and hardware engineering functions.
- Lead and manage system safety working groups involving key stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience (6+ years with advanced degree).
- Proven experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E system safety programs.
- Experience performing MIL-STD-882 tasks, including management (100 series), analysis (200 series), evaluation (300 series), and verification (400 series).
- Active and transferable U.S. government Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship required.
- Strong communication skills for briefings, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.

- Experience preparing internal and customer safety reports.
- Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines to understand system architecture.
- Experience interfacing with systems, software/firmware, electrical, and hardware engineering functions.
- Experience managing system safety working groups with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
