Searching for a candidate interested making an impact as part of a critical component within Cengage Group Distribution Center eager to perform daily tasks accurately and with excellence going above and beyond standard expectations.

The Transportation and Routing Specialist role is a service-oriented position focused on completing tasks for daily shipment routing and providing timely and courteous support to all internal customer service associates, internal sales associates, distribution staff, carriers and 3PL distribution customers for inquiries or issues pertaining to transportation.

Where you will work:

The position requires a hybrid work schedule with at minimum 1 day per week required to be completed in the office. Additional days (TBD) on site could be required due to change in business need or to support continued development of abilities. Candidates willing & able to engage in on-site activities above the required minimum will be better suited to handle the demands of the role and be positioned to accelerate professional development.

Job training will take place in person at the Cengage Distribution Center daily, for 3-4 days per week, approximately 2 – 3 weeks after initial orientation, or until duties are mastered and candidate shows proficiency to work independently.

What you'll do here:

  • Perform time critical daily outbound routing activities on which distribution operations require to be complete

  • Connect with distribution and shipping personnel to assist with transportation/carrier related inquiries & activities

  • Research and return carrier shipment status (proof of delivery, tracing and tracking requests) for Cengage business units and third-party distribution customers upon request

  • File and supervise freight and parcel claims with carriers on all qualifying shipments

  • Serve as a point of contact for carrier issues and requests for information (i.e. bill of lading inquiries, etc.)

  • Provide backup to and collaborate with other Transportation team members within the department

  • Work outside of normal business hours may be required based on customer or business need but does not occur on a regular basis.

  • Additional responsibilities include transportation administrative tasks, such as electronic filing of paperwork, claims processing and gathering proofs of delivery.

  • Small project assignments supporting business needs and professional development of analytics and project management abilities will also be given.

Skills you will need here:

  • Excellent initiative and desire to learn Cengage's day to day transportation operations (both domestically and abroad)

  • Ability to work cross-functionally over all areas in the Transportation department and work efficiently in a team environment

  • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Must have proficiencies with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, along with competence navigating internet applications, portals and websites

  • Pay excellent attention to detail

  • Well organized and capable of multi-tasking

  • Must be able to self-manage workload and required deadlines

  • Willingness to work under pressure & in a fast-paced environment during busy seasons

  • Accepting of working occasional overtime and open to flexible schedule (at times) to support distribution operations requirements

  • Previous experience in a Transportation Role, SAP, Paper wise, Logistics PRO, or other WMS systems is a plus

  • A candidate that is self-motivated with a desire for continuous improvement will be best suited for a long-term position with career growth within Transportation group and within Cengage.

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location.  Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
