Director of Nursing – Assisted Living Program (Confidential Search)

A well-established, high-quality assisted living organization is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee clinical operations across multiple Adult Care and Assisted Living programs. This is a key leadership opportunity for a hands-on, resident-focused nursing professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Overview:

The Director of Nursing will lead all health and wellness services within the Assisted Living and Enriched Housing programs, ensuring compliance with NYS Department of Health regulations while promoting a culture of excellence, dignity, and compassion in care delivery. This role requires strong operational insight, team-building skills, and a proactive approach to clinical leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct all nursing and health-related services across Assisted Living and Adult Care programs.
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance and maintain high standards of clinical quality.
  • Oversee development and review of individualized service plans (ISPs).
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff and home health aides.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing resident assessments and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with case managers, administrators, residents, families, and care teams.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide emergency oversight and clinical support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Current New York State RN license (required)
  • Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • 5–7 years of nursing experience in assisted living or long-term care, including 4+ years in leadership
  • Strong understanding of NYS Assisted Living and Adult Care regulations
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with a hands-on management style
  • Proficiency in EHR systems and Microsoft Office

Compensation & Schedule:

  • Salary: $150,000+ (DOE)
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, retirement, PTO, and professional development
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (leadership flexibility required; occasional weekend or evening presence expected)

A strong, operationally savvy nursing leader who can motivate teams, foster accountability, and maintain a calm, professional presence. Must be comfortable providing support during emergencies and engaging with staff across all shifts to ensure consistent quality of care.
