Under general direction of the Deputy Director, Office of Environmental Justice, Tribal Relations, Education and Outreach (EJTREO), the Environmental Program Manager (EPM) I (Supervisory) coordinates, develops, evaluates, and recommends strategies and policies for advancing environmental justice and tribal relations in the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery's (CalRecycle) scientific activities and leads CalRecycle's OEEJT program. Additionally, in this capacity, the EPM I (Supervisory) will oversee staff in the development and distribution of environmental education materials consistent with Public Resources Code (PRC and implement the requirements under Assembly Bill (AB) 649. Duties shall include but are not limited to: ensuring CalRecycle programs effectively address environmental education and the needs and priorities of California Native American tribes (Tribes), disadvantaged communities, low-income communities, and farmworkers; providing an evaluation of a range of strategic, scientific, technological, regulatory and economic opportunities for CalRecycle related to environmental justice and tribal relations; developing and maintaining cooperative relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, environmental justice organizations, Tribes, and industry representatives as well as within government (state, local, federal).
Travel may be required locally and within the state up to 20% of the time. This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License (CDL). Failing to maintain a valid CDL will result in a failure to meet job requirements.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense. Beginning July 1, 2026, it is anticipated the position will be office-centered and employees will be expected to report to the office at least four days per week.

Ability to guide environmental education programs and initiatives including internships, research opportunities, youth engagement, leadership development and K-12 funding opportunities.
Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing staff. Ensures compliance with personnel policies, conducts performance evaluations, and fosters a collaborative and productive team environment.
Experience developing and managing program budgets, including contract development and oversight. Ensures fiscal responsibility and alignment of resources with program goals.
