Responsibilities

  • Safely operate commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks to transport freight across assigned routes.
  • Load and unload cargo efficiently using appropriate equipment like forklifts when necessary, ensuring proper handling and securing of goods.
  • Drive with precision on various routes, adhering strictly to traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns before and after each trip.
  • Manage documentation related to deliveries including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and route logs with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate proactively with dispatchers regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or any incidents encountered during transit.
  • Maintain a clean driving record by practicing safe driving habits and complying with all federal and state transportation regulations.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading process when required, ensuring cargo is handled carefully to prevent damage.
  • Support route planning efforts for optimal efficiency while maintaining timely deliveries.

Skills

  • Proven experience in commercial driving with a valid CDL license capable of operating manual transmission vehicles.
  • Familiarity with operating various truck types including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
  • Strong knowledge of freight handling procedures for load & unload operations across different cargo types.
  • Ability to drive safely over long distances on diverse routes while maintaining focus and professionalism.
  • Experience with specialized equipment such as forklifts is a plus for loading/unloading cargo efficiently.
  • Excellent understanding of safety protocols related to trucking operations and cargo securement standards.
  • Good communication skills for coordinating with dispatch teams and customers effectively.
  • Physical ability to handle the demands of loading/unloading freight and performing vehicle inspections regularly.
