Job Overview

We are seeking a warm, flexible, and Montessori‑aligned Substitute Preschool Guide to support our children and classrooms on an as‑needed basis. In this role, you will step into Montessori environments to maintain the prepared classroom, uphold Montessori principles, and nurture each child's independence, curiosity, and natural love of learning. The ideal candidate is patient, observant, and committed to respecting the developmental needs of young children. Experience in Montessori education, early childhood development, and supporting diverse learners is highly valued. Duties

  • Maintain the prepared Montessori environment by ensuring materials are accessible, orderly, and used respectfully.

  • Follow the lead guide's plans or offer developmentally appropriate Montessori activities that align with the child's interests and abilities.

  • Support children through gentle redirection, grace‑and‑courtesy modeling, and positive, respectful behavior guidance.

  • Observe children's engagement and independence, stepping in only when necessary to support safety or learning.

  • Assist with daily routines such as snack preparation, outdoor exploration, toileting, and transitions while encouraging children's autonomy.

  • Provide feedback to the lead guide regarding children's work choices, social interactions, and overall classroom flow.

  • Foster an inclusive environment that supports children of varying abilities, including those with autism or special developmental needs.

  • Communicate professionally with staff and, when appropriate, with families regarding a child's day.

  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children at all times.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of Montessori philosophy and willingness to uphold Montessori principles in practice.

  • Knowledge of early childhood development, including sensitive periods, independence building, and hands‑on learning.

  • Ability to adapt to different classroom environments and support children's needs without disrupting their work cycle.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting respectfully with children, families, and staff.

  • Experience with positive behavior guidance and creating calm, supportive classroom environments.

  • Experience working with children with autism or other developmental differences is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with private school settings, tutoring, or individualized learning approaches is an advantage.

  • Collaborative mindset and ability to support the teaching team with professionalism and care.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 20 per week
