Assistant Athletic Trainer – Sports Medicine

Reports to: Director of Athletics

Position Status: Temporary

Position Summary

The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and helps oversee the care of student-athletes competing in the University's athletic programs. This position is responsible for injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, documentation, and coverage of practices, games, and travel.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Training Room.

· Provide coverage at practices and games, including evenings and weekends.

· Travel with both men's and women's athletic teams as assigned.

· Assist with inventory management and supply ordering.

· Support the processing of secondary insurance claims.

· Maintain accurate documentation of student-athlete medical records, including pre-participation physicals, injury reports, and rehabilitation notes.

· Model caring relationships with students through personal interaction and as an effective role model of a committed Christian life.

· Willingness to exercise ministerial duties as appropriate, such as praying with students, sharing personal faith testimony, encouraging students in their walk with Christ, etc.

Education & Certification Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
• Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers (required).
• Registered or eligible for registration as an Athletic Trainer in the State of California (required).
• Current CPR/AED certification for healthcare professionals (required).

Knowledge and Skills:

· Knowledge of athletic injuries, rehabilitation techniques, assessment, and emergency care.

· Familiarity with basic pharmacology and athlete counseling.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to maintain accurate medical records and documentation.

· Basic computer skills and ability to manage budgets.

· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

· A vibrant and authentic Christian faith and worldview consistent with the University's mission and values are required.

Mental Demands:

· Ability to remain positive in stressful situations.

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with staff and athletes.

· Confidence in decision-making and flexibility in a dynamic environment.

Visual Demands:

· Regular computer use and ability to recognize and assess athletic injuries.

Physical Demands:

· Ability to lift, grasp, stoop, and carry up to 50 pounds. Flexibility to work in varied settings and environments daily.

Work Environment:

· Busy, fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Extensive contact with students, faculty, and staff, both in person and via electronic communication.

Character

Must demonstrate Christian character and be actively involved in a local church.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will come from sports medicine, orthopedic, or injury rehabilitation settings and have experience collaborating with physicians and athletic programs to support athlete health and recovery within a Christ-centered environment.

This is a medical position. Candidates must hold a certification in athletic training (ATC) and demonstrate the ability to treat and rehabilitate injuries.

This is not a personal trainer or fitness trainer position — we seek someone with medical and clinical expertise focused on injury healing and prevention.
