Job Summary:

As the Quality Engineer at Caterpillar, you will be responsible for monitoring quality metrics and working with suppliers. This role requires exceptional problem-solving skills as well as high energy to swiftly resolve quality issues to limit impact to production lines. This individual will concurrently work to evaluate risks and develop quality assurance plans to focus on leveraging incoming quality audits and supplier audits. This candidate should be able to create and perform advanced inspection and audits to track, analyze, and report on materials, processes, and products to ensure conformance to company's quality standards.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct measurement systems analysis, gathering, analyzing, and communicating non-conformance data.
  • Analyzing non-conformance data and maintaining quality system documentation.
  • Interacting with manufacturing engineering, design engineering and operation teams to determine root cause of quality issues and ensure that corrective and preventive action is implemented.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and resolving nonconformance. Investigating problems on worked, purchased finished, rough, and interplant material.
  • Sets priorities and recommendations towards solutions to support production requirements.
  • Leads cross functional teams to solve complex supplier quality issues.
  • Support for quality initiatives (Lean, Defect Free, APQP… ect)
  • Disposition of non-conforming material through analysis of defects and root cause identification.
  • Develop, maintain & owns value stream control plans.
  • Lead cross functional Caterpillar teams through resolution to product related problems while effectively communicating with customer senior leaders.

Education requirement:

Candidates should possess a Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise.

What skills you will have:

Quality Management:

  • Working knowledge of quality concepts and process controls including control plans, data analysis, Built in Quality, Caterpillar internal certification principals, and ISO9000 etc.
  • Communicates key benefits of a quality management process.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools including Powerbi, or similar visualization tools
  • Conducts and directs quality reviews.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Metrology (Vision Systems, CMM, & 3D Laster)
  • Develops expertise in quality assurance tools, techniques, and standards.
  • Develops quality assurance processes based on Six Sigma, ISO 9000
  • Develops programs for motivating employees to meet or exceed quality goals

Accuracy and Attention to Detail:

  • Project management skills leading people and processes
  • Capable of developing inspection criteria on incoming and outgoing nonconformance
  • Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Advanced computer applications, PowerPoint, Excel, good oral and written communications skills are a must

Problem Solving:

  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Ability to read print, 3D Creaform, and CMM reports to determine nonconformances and capable to relate issues back to supplier with process improvements to ensure defect free material.

Flexibility and Adaptability:

  • Knowledge of successful approaches and techniques for dealing with change; ability to adapt to a changing environment and be comfortable with change

Relationship Management:

  • Demonstrates expertise in engaging in effective collaborative processes
  • History of coaching and leading teams through change.
  • Assists in communicating shared goals with diverse groups and parties.
  • Helps promote collaboration across generations, functions, regions, and levels.
  • Help solve business problems and meet business goals through collaborative processes.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Worked in a Fabrication/Machining/Paint environment, or in the quality field is desired

The location for this position is East Peoria, IL

Summary Pay Range:

$110, $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
