- Morgantown, WV's leading commercial real estate firm is seeking a talented Sr. Accountant to join its accounting department (~ 6 accountants) and team (~ 15 people). The firm is a proven performer in the areas of commercial real estate development, leasing, property management, and consulting. A positive reputation is required.
Role Summary

- The Sr. Accountant plays a critical role in financial reporting, cash flow management, compliance, and strategic decision support across a diverse portfolio of income-producing and development properties.

- Transaction tracking and reconciliation
- Lease accounting and investment management
- Property- and entity-level financial reporting
- Asset valuation and investment performance analysis
- Compliance with tax, lender, and investor requirements
The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Core Focus Areas:
- Real Estate Accounting & Financial Reporting under U.S. GAAP
- Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis at property and consolidated levels
- Lease administration and accounting
- Common Area Maintenance (CAM), Insurance, & Real Estate Tax Reconciliations
- Fixed asset management, capital expenditures, and depreciation schedules
- Intercompany transactions, entity consolidations, and distribution accounting
- Cash management and treasury functions
- Investment analysis and project underwriting
- Internal controls and process improvement initiatives
Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple real estate entities in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Complete A/R and A/P cycles, ensuring accurate coding of property-level transactions.
- Track depreciation, amortization, and capitalization of real estate assets.
- Conduct bank reconciliations, escrow account management, and loan compliance tracking.
- Perform common expense reconciliations, tenant billings, and lease reviews.
- Support external audits, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting.
- Conduct monthly close process to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and completeness.
Analysis & Decision Support
- Prepare cash flow projections, operating budgets, and capital expenditure forecasts.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for key performance drivers.
- Evaluate real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing scenarios.
- Assist with loan covenant testing, debt compliance, and investor reporting packages.
- Support pro forma modeling, ROI calculations, and investment performance tracking.
Systems & Process Management
- Utilize and enhance accounting software systems (Sage, Excel, etc.)
- Recommend and implement process improvements, workflow automation, and internal control enhancements.
- Support data integrity across financial, property management, and leasing systems.
Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise and review the work of accounting staff.
- Provide guidance to promote technical proficiency and professional growth.
- Ensure departmental compliance with GAAP, company policies, and industry best practices.

Qualifications/Experience
- CPA License (Preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Real Estate qualifications, designations, experience
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, real estate accounting principles, and lease accounting standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite; Sage, Yardi, or similar ERP experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience with common expense reconciliations, entity consolidations, and financial modeling
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience
- Valid driver's license and acceptable background check required
