This role is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys hands-on work, solving problems, and ensuring compliance across multiple states and divisions. You'll manage end-to-end payroll processing and benefits administration while serving as a trusted resource for our teams.

Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

Payroll Processing

  • Accurately process semi-monthly payrolls for non-union Metro Elevator employees using the iSolved payroll system.
  • Manage weekly union payrolls for assigned divisions until local administrators are trained and fully onboarded.
  • Review weekly union payrolls for existing offices and serve as a back-up processor when local admins are unavailable.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in iSolved and the ERP system for all Metro Elevator entities.
  • Partner with local office administrators to ensure accuracy in adjustments, pay increases, vacation payouts, and benefit deductions.
  • Process employment changes (new hires, terminations, promotions, pay rate updates, transfers) in a timely and accurate manner.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Record payroll journal entries into the ERP system.
  • Receive and resolve payroll-related notices, including garnishments, tax penalties, and unemployment filings.
  • Establish and maintain new state withholding and unemployment tax accounts as new entities are added.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and union payroll regulations.
  • Retrieve, review, and file company-wide payroll reports for each payroll cycle.

Benefits & 401k Administration

  • Manage non-union employee 401k enrollment and updates in iSolved payroll system, including new deferrals and contribution processing.
  • Process 401k contributions for non-union employees and oversee union 401k remittances for new offices.
  • Coordinate with 401k providers to add new employers to the controlled group and set up banking details as needed.
  • Load employees into Employee Navigator for health insurance enrollment and process contributions and deductions through iSolved payroll system.
  • Administer union benefits and vacation accruals until office managers assume responsibility.

Onboarding & Training

  • Provide guidance and support to local office administrators on payroll procedures, union benefit administration, and timekeeping processes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related questions from employees and managers, offering clear and professional communication.
  • Assist with onboarding new admins or divisions as needed, ensuring consistent payroll practices across the company.

Qualifications / What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience managing payroll, ideally in a multi-state and/or unionized environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance, garnishments, benefits, and 401k administration.
  • High proficiency with payroll systems (iSolved preferred) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy-takes pride in "getting it right" every time.
  • Strong communication skills; able to clearly explain payroll matters to both employees and leadership.
  • Comfortable working independently as a one-person payroll department while collaborating across divisions.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee and company information.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
