Upstream Scientist

Piper Companies is seeking a skilled
Upstream Scientist
to join a leading pharmaceutical team in the
Frederick
area starting no later than November 2025
.
This
full-time, onsite
role supports both clinical and commercial biologics manufacturing within a GMP-regulated environment. The ideal candidate will be skilled in
upstream tech transfer
and
biologics
development, with expertise in
mammalian cell culture
and
scale-up.
Responsibilities of the Upstream Scientist Include:

• Lead/support upstream activities for clinical and commercial products.
• Execute scale-up and tech transfer of cell culture processes.
• Monitor process performance and drive improvements.
• Conduct lab experiments to support tech transfer.
• Analyze data using MVDA tools and present findings.
• Author technical reports and contribute to scientific discussions.
• Collaborate across global MS&T teams to share insights.

Qualifications of the Upstream Scientist Include:

• 3-7 years of experience in upstream tech transfer or cell culture development.

• Strong knowledge of mammalian cell culture and upstream operations:

• Scale-up, harvest, chromatography, viral inactivation, filtration, UF/DF.

• Familiarity with CMC and GMP documentation.

• Skilled in data analysis and scientific problem-solving.
• Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills.

Compensation of the Upstream Scientist Includes:

• Salary Range: $80, $115,000.00/year, based on experience and certifications.
