Upstream Scientist

Piper Companies is seeking a skilled Upstream Scientist to join a leading pharmaceutical team in the Frederick area starting no later than November 2025. This full-time, onsite role supports both clinical and commercial biologics manufacturing within a GMP-regulated environment. The ideal candidate will be skilled in upstream tech transfer and biologics development, with expertise in mammalian cell culture and scale-up.Responsibilities of the Upstream Scientist Include:Lead/support upstream activities for clinical and commercial products.Execute scale-up and tech transfer of cell culture processes.Monitor process performance and drive improvements.Conduct lab experiments to support tech transfer.Analyze data using MVDA tools and present findings.Author technical reports and contribute to scientific discussions.Collaborate across global MS&T teams to share insights.Qualifications of the Upstream Scientist Include:3-7 years of experience in upstream tech transfer or cell culture development.Strong knowledge of mammalian cell culture and upstream operations:Scale-up, harvest, chromatography, viral inactivation, filtration, UF/DF.Familiarity with CMC and GMP documentation.Skilled in data analysis and scientific problem-solving.Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills.Compensation of the Upstream Scientist Includes:Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $115,000.00/year, based on experience and certifications.
