Job DescriptionHybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three (3) times per week, at minimum. Testing requirements may require the employee to be onsite five (5) days per week.The RoleGM Motorsports is developing and supporting electronic systems and virtual testing environments to support our growing Sports Car Racing platforms as well as F1 and production car environments. You will work with GM engineering to develop state-of-the-art electronic systems and actively support the systems in virtual environments and test facilities. This will include hardware in the loop (HiL), driver in the loop (Dil) and dyno in the loop testing environments. The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and capable of managing complex systems in a high-pressure motorsport environment.What You'll DoElectronic Systems SupportUnderstand the electronic systems of the GM motorsport programs to replicate the systems in virtual testing environmentsDebug electrical, hardware and software issues when systems are not 100% functionalSupport performance engineers and race teams in GM's virtual test environmentsHiL Test Bench SupportComplete ownership of dSPACE and Concurrent Real-Time hardware in the loop test benchesElectrical system architecture and wire harness designPlant model development and integrationAutomated regression testingSupport software controls and system configuration testingDiL Simulation SupportKeep GM and Dallara driver-in-the-loop systems up to date with the racecar systemsAct as first responder to hardware and software issues during live simulator sessionsSupport testing of prototype controls and electronics system configsManage and configure telemetry and control system files across multiple simulator environmentsUnderstand and support DiL rig hardware, CAN systems, and the interface between rig and Dymola vehicle modelsAVL Dyno Test SupportUnderstand and support the vehicle electronic systems and adapt as needed to run propulsion systems on dynoUnderstand and support the vehicle systems to link DiL testing with a live propulsion system on dynoPlan and manage brake system testing and characterizationSupport AVL dyno control and data systems to maximize use of the dynoThis position will require minimal travel. Expected travel to be 2-4 weeks a yearWhat You'll Need (Required Qualifications)Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent professional experience2-6 years of engineering experienceAbility to balance multiple projects efficiently, including prioritization and working to tight deadlinesStrong collaboration skills and ability to navigate relationships with external partnersAbility to efficiently document customer requirements, identify methods to integrate into existing framework, translate into functional solutions and validate changesDeliver high quality work products by utilizing a variety of test methodologies and environments including software in the loop (SiL), hardware in the loop (HiL) and driver in the loop (DiL)Ability to present data clearly and concisely; examples may be requestedHigh proficiency in problem solving, methodically finding, and solving issue root causes, especially in high stress environmentsStrong communication skills are a must as you will be working with team members at remote locations frequentlyWhat Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Demonstrated proficiency in automotive (or similar) electronic systems with specific knowledge on CAN, ethernet, electrical architecture and telemetryEndurance racing experience in a series such as IMSA, WEC, ELMS, etcHybrid racing experience such as LMDh, LMH, or F1Demonstrated proficiency in motorsports electronics including Bosch, Cosworth, McLaren, Motec, etcExperience working with SiL, HiL, and DiL simulation environmentsDemonstrated proficiency in team support at the racetrackAVL dyno experienceLI-LP2This role is categorized as hybrid.
