Description

BASIC FUNCTION

  1. Obtain medical history from client or parent/guardian
  2. Examine and diagnose children from birth through 19 years of age/refer to specialist when indicated
  3. Order and interpret blood work
  4. Order Immunizations
  5.  Perform routine and min outpatient procedures for which they have adequate training and experience
  6. Counsel and provide health education
  7. Conduct and document PDSAs for quality improvement
  8. Integrate and employ Care Model and Performance Improvement Model in delivery of care

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Provide comprehensive pediatric healthcare

a. Conduct pediatric assessments, including physical examinations, medical histories, and developmental screenings

b. Diagnose and treat common pediatric conditions, such as infections, injuries, and chronic illnesses

c. Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans, including prescribing medications, ordering tests, and referring to specialists as needed

  1. Perform well-child care and preventive services

a. Conduct routine pediatric check-ups, including growth measurements, immunizations, and health screenings

b. Educate parents and caregivers on child development, nutrition, immunization schedules, and injury prevention

c. Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling on topics such as puberty, behavior, and mental health

  1. Manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions

a. Assess and manage common childhood illnesses

b. Monitor and provide ongoing care for children with chronic conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, developmental and mental health disorders

c. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans and coordinate services for complex cases

  1. Educate and support patients and families

a. Offer health education and counseling to children, adolescents, and their families regarding specific conditions and treatment plans

b. Address parental concerns, provide emotional support, and facilitate shared decision-making regarding healthcare choices

c. Collaborate with community resources to ensure access to necessary support services and interventions

  1. Document and maintain accurate medical records

a. Document patient encounters, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in electronic health records or medical charts

b. Ensure timely and accurate completion of medical documentation, including progress notes, orders, and referrals

c. Adhere to legal and ethical standards of patient confidentiality and record keeping

d. Timely completion and closure of charts as per organization policy.

  1. Collaborate with healthcare team members

a. Work collaboratively with physicians, medical providers, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care

b. Participate in case conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

c. Communicate effectively with colleagues to exchange information, seek consultation, and ensure continuity of care

  1. Stay informed about pediatric best practices and advancements

a. Engage in professional development activities, such as continuing education courses, seminars, and conferences

b. Keep up-to-date with current evidence-based guidelines and pediatric research to provide the highest quality of care

c. Contribute to the advancement of pediatric nursing practice through participation in research, quality improvement projects, or professional organizations
