Position Summary
The Senior Director, Funding Operations is a critical leadership role responsible for driving the strategic vision, operational excellence, and commercial success of the Funding Operations function. This role oversees the end-to-end funding lifecycle, from intake to reimbursement, including coordination with Contracts, Appeals, Billing, and Collections teams to ensure alignment with revenue targets and organizational priorities.

This role plays a key part in accelerating reimbursement outcomes, improving first-pass success rates, and driving revenue realization through optimized funding operations.
Strategic Leadership & Execution
- Define and execute a clear, data-driven strategy for Funding Operations aligned with enterprise revenue goals, commercial partnerships, and efficiency targets.
- Develop and implement scalable processes, KPIs, and tools to ensure consistency and high performance across North America.
- Act as a key business partner to leadership across Sales, Finance, and Operations to drive strategic alignment, revenue forecasting, and pipeline planning.
- Continuously assess and evolve the strategy based on market dynamics, payer trends, and organizational priorities.
- Drive strategy execution to ensure the function delivers on targets and OKRs while preparing the organization for future growth.
Operational Excellence & Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Contracts, Appeals, Billing, and Collections teams to optimize the full revenue cycle, identify friction points, and implement solutions that improve throughput, cash flow, and customer satisfaction.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
- Establish rigorous governance and change management processes to support the successful adoption of new initiatives, tools, and workflows.
- Lead efforts to reduce funding turnaround time, minimize denials, and enhance funding eligibility validation processes.
- Collaborate with leadership, department heads, and project teams to assess the impact of proposed changes and create stakeholder-focused change management plans.
- Develop comprehensive management plans to drive cross-functional adoption and communicate outcomes effectively.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Foster a high-performing team culture centered on accountability, ownership, and continuous development.
- Lead, coach, and mentor managers and directors within the Funding team, driving performance, skill development, and business acumen.
- Attract, retain, and grow top talent to support long-term growth and capability building within the function.
- Promote a collaborative, learning-oriented culture that values innovation and operational excellence.
- Deliver on growth and efficiency targets, and recruit the right talent to meet scaling demands.
- Ensure continuous upskilling of Funding managers and directors in recruitment, performance management, business understanding, and leadership.
- Model strong leadership and provide targeted coaching, feedback, and development opportunities across the team.
Change Management & Innovation
- Drive process improvement initiatives across the funding and revenue cycle ecosystem, using data to identify root causes, inefficiencies, and opportunities for innovation.
- Lead efforts to streamline systems, eliminate manual work, and implement tools that enhance scalability and consistency.
- Own the execution of large-scale transformation projects—from change design to adoption and post-launch optimization.
- Champion automation, digital solutions, and systems integration to modernize funding operations and enable scale.
- Set strategies to future-proof the funding function by leveraging innovation and emerging technologies.
- Promote a culture of ownership and accountability, empowering team members to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in funding operations, revenue cycle management, or a related function; experience in the healthcare or insurance industry is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of driving commercial outcomes and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing large teams and developing future leaders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive insights from complex data sets and drive performance improvements.
- Demonstrated success in leading change management and continuous improvement programs.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
- Familiarity with payer guidelines, reimbursement programs (e.g., Medicaid/Medicare), and regulatory compliance is a strong plus.
- This role requires up to 10% travel, primarily for leadership meetings, cross-functional collaboration, and alignment with regional teams.
