Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Safety Director to oversee safety operations across our construction projects. The successful candidate will develop, implement, and enforce safety policies to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, Virginia state laws, and industry best practices. This role involves collaboration with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to maintain a culture of safety on job sites, particularly those involving specialty trade work such as waterproofing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to our construction projects, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local safety regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, with a focus on risks associated with waterproofing and other specialty trade activities.
- Lead safety training programs for employees and subcontractors, covering topics such as fall protection, hazardous materials handling, and equipment safety.
- Investigate incidents and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and industry trends, advising management on necessary updates to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety measures into project planning and execution.
- Manage safety documentation, including permits, certifications, and training records.
- Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging with workers and leadership to promote accountability and awareness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in construction safety management, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or OSHA 30-Hour required.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, Virginia construction safety standards, and industry best practices, particularly in specialty trade contracting.
- Experience with waterproofing, structural repairs, or similar specialty construction projects is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to conduct safety training and lead incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual skills (e.g., English/Spanish) are a plus for communicating with diverse workforces.
