Job Description

Job Summary:

The Department of Global Health and Population (GHP) seeks to improve global health through education, research, and service from a population-based perspective. As a community of students, educators, researchers, and practitioners from around the world, GHP works together to produce powerful ideas that improve the lives and health of people everywhere. GHP is seeking to hire a project coordinator to support the operations of the Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) under the guidance of Professor Rifat Atun, the principal investigator (PI).

The Health Systems Innovation Lab is a global research and training lab that specializes in health system performance, health policy, innovation and venture creation. The lab uses its research, education, innovation and translation activities to engage innovators, researchers, practitioners, as well as collaborators from governments, private sector, multilateral entities, and civil society to build high-value health systems and accelerate the discussion of healthcare innovations.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Strengthen capacity of partner institutions in problem identification, solution design, and development of ventures for participation in the annual HSIL Hackathon.
  • Design and deliver an innovation-focused course module through the Knowledge Hub.
  • Co-design and implement a hackathon to advance digital and AI-driven solutions for type 1 diabetes (T1D).
  • Develop and manage a post-hackathon incubation program to support early-stage innovations from collaborating countries.
  • Support the launch of hackathon, innovation training, and incubation programs for researchers from partner institutions.
  • Contribute to key research and policy outputs, including:
  • A costing study for an essential T1D benefits package.
  • Policy briefs to inform decision-makers in low- and middle-income countries.
  • A website and data visualizer on health systems performance in GC-CDiC countries.
  • Analytical methodologies for assessing health system performance.
  • Mentor early-career researchers and supervise interns at HSIL, under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of August 31, 2026 with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience is considered

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

The following job-related skills and experience is preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience as a medical practitioner
  • Experience of quantitative and qualitative research, literature reviews, and evidence-to-policy translation
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience engaging with clinicians and researchers

Work Format Details

This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Salary Grade and Ranges
