The Delaware Department of Correction seeks a collaborative, critical thinker with well-developed communication and project management skills to join its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team. This individual will help develop, implement, and track initiatives that support the Department's DEI goals. The role offers the chance to provide input on the processes and programs that impact the experience of all employees, as well as an opportunity to be part of an inclusive working environment.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Assist with creating and implementing a framework to integrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategies and goals.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training focused on identifying personal biases, developing tools, and strategies to enhance inclusion.
  • Consult with Department leadership to assist in developing action plans to address identified systemic barriers.
  • Assist with developing and implementing data collection and analysis to measure workforce diversity and inclusion efforts and support the Department with reporting and monitoring activities and methodologies. Coordinate reporting to Department leadership on progress, achievements, and areas of concern.
  • Coordinate internal and external activities and events that support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion goals.
  • Assist with building awareness and use of Diversity and Inclusion best practices.
  • Assist with building relationships with external organizations to stay informed of issues of Diversity and Inclusion and present the Department's progress as appropriate.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • At least one (1) year of work experience with its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives or related field.

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Ability to conceptualize and execute initiatives and programs with minimal direction.

  • Must be adept at fostering strong relationships, building collaborations, and developing networks.

  • Must be approachable and able to connect well with all employees. Comfort navigating difficult situations and conversations with employees and providing support and consultation.

  • High degree of professionalism and discretion, and ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and report on quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Experience in change management and conflict resolution.

  • Able to identify problems, ideate, and implement a solution.

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.
