Experienced Cost Accounting Consultant

Seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to support Finance during operational transition and system stabilization. This role will provide hands-on, detail-oriented support for monthly close activities, inventory accounting, WIP, COGS, and PPV where many cost flows are manual and require direct GL entries to reflect operational activity.
Requires 4 days onsite in Torrance, CA
. Duration 6-9 months with the potential to convert.

What you will work on

• Execute month-end close activities related to inventory, WIP, COGS, and manufacturing operations.
• Prepare and document manual journal entries to reflect production, usage, receipts, adjustments, and timing corrections when system data is incomplete.
• Maintain and reconcile inventory-related accounts, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
• Assist in structuring and improving existing manual workflows related to receipts, usage, work orders, and period-end recognition.
• Rebuild or validate reconciliations where underlying documentation is incomplete or inconsistent.
• Provide practical recommendations to improve accuracy and efficiency in a manual, transitioning cost accounting environment.
• Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Engineering/R&D, and Finance to validate data and understand cost drivers.

What you will bring

• 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or inventory accounting.
• Strong understanding of inventory flows, work order behavior, WIP concepts, PPV, and COGS reporting.
• Experience performing reconciliations, variance analysis, and month-end close work in manual or semi-manual environments.
• Comfort working with production logs, spreadsheets, ad-hoc data extracts, and non-automated workflows.
• Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, data validation).
• Ability to work independently, prioritize under tight timelines, and navigate ambiguous or evolving processes.
• Experience in manufacturing, construction products, hardware, aerospace, or engineering-driven environments.
• Exposure to early-stage or transitional ERP environments due to incomplete system integration.

• Pay Range: $55/hr-$70/hr
