Position Overview:

The Ballard Center for Social Impact at the BYU Marriott School of Business invites applications for an adjunct faculty member to teach Impact Investing — a course introducing the tools, principles, and practices of investing for measurable social and environmental good.

The course serves undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in social innovation, impact finance, nonprofit management, and sustainable business. It emphasizes applied learning, case-based discussion, and connection to current market practices.

Required Degree: Master's degree or higher in finance, business, economics, public administration, or a related field. The required degree must be completed by the start date. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in impact investing, social enterprise finance, ESG investment management, or development finance.

  • Strong teaching, facilitation, and mentoring skills for experiential, discussion-based learning environments.

  • Alignment with the mission of Brigham Young University and the values of the Ballard Center for Social Impact.

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:

    • Structuring or managing impact funds or social finance portfolios

    • Conducting due diligence or impact measurement and management (IMM)

    • Advising or consulting for social enterprises, DFIs, or philanthropic investors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a practitioner or consultant working with multiple asset classes (private equity, venture capital, debt, guarantees).

  • Previous university-level teaching or executive training experience.

  • Familiarity with GIIN IRIS+, Impact Management Project, or related standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one section (3 credit hours) of Impact Investing.

  • Design and deliver engaging, applied learning experiences for students with varied finance and social sector backgrounds.

  • Introduce students to the full range of impact investment instruments (equity, debt, quasi-equity, bonds, guarantees, and outcome-based tools).

  • Integrate case studies, live projects, or practitioner guest speakers to illustrate real-world applications.

  • Evaluate student performance through written analyses, presentations, and project-based work.

  • Collaborate with Ballard Center faculty and practitioners to maintain curricular alignment with emerging field standards.

  • Participate in Ballard Center community-wide events and faculty training.
