About the job

Role: Chief Technology Officer

Location: Hybrid, NYC or San Francisco preferred

What We Build: Widescale builds secure, auditable software for nuclear/radiation regulators.

Position Overview

We're seeking a CTO who can ship products and lead a team of developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and builds the technical architecture of the platform.

  • Turn strategy into delivery by breaking goals into simple, shippable milestones—pilot first, then scale.

  • Help hire great people, set standards, and create a culture of ownership and momentum.

  • Partner across the business: work closely with the CEO, domain advisors, and go-to-market on priorities and timelines.

  • Scale what works: codify learnings from the first customers into repeatable playbooks for new markets.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in modern AI architectures, including large language models, retrieval systems, and applied ML.

  • Strong understanding of how to design trustworthy, explainable AI systems that serve real human or institutional workflows.

  • Comfortable evaluating and integrating emerging AI technologies, with an ability to balance experimentation and reliability.

  • Experienced in setting up data and model governance, ensuring traceability, evaluation, and version control across the AI lifecycle.

What we offer

  • Compensation: Base $140,000 + competitive equity package.

  • Work with governments, up close: Partner directly with regulators and ministries in different countries—co-design workflows, sit in the rooms where national standards meet software, and see your work land in policy and practice.

  • Redefine AI in government: Help write the playbook for responsible, auditable AI in the public sector—human-in-the-loop review, transparent versioning, and evidence-backed decisions that stand up to scrutiny.

  • Scope & ownership: Ground-floor co-ownership across three interlinked products; your architectural calls become the rails the company builds on.

  • Stage & exposure: Opportunities to demo to national agencies and standards bodies, collaborate with partners, and represent Widescale across the GovTech/RegTech community.

  • Culture: Senior, execution-first team with clear goals, high trust, and pragmatic processes.

How to apply

  • LinkedIn/GitHub or portfolio,
