Summary

Ophthalmic photographers provide support to ophthalmologists and optometrists within the clinical environment. Ophthalmic photographers are able to perform ophthalmic diagnostic tests and assessments for providers and assist with in-clinic procedures. Ophthalmic photographers should possess excellent critical thinking skills, excellent clinical skills, be able to multi-task, and have excellent customer service skills.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.

This position is located at our McNair Campus.

Job Duties

Ophthalmic photographers assist with the following tests/assessments within an ophthalmology practice including but not limited to the following:

  • Photographs fluorescent angiograms.
  • Performs OCT/auto fluorescence.
  • Performs IOL calculations.
  • Performs ultrasound biometry and sonography.
  • Performs slit lamp photography.
  • Performs simultaneous stereo and individual fundus photography.
  • Injects dye for fluoresceins.
  • Conducts color vision testing.
  • Conducts confocal testing.
  • May travel to other office location.
  • My be assigned to assist ophthalmic staff in direct patient care.
  • Responds to patient's messages in a timely manner.
  • Works with front desk to ensure that message boards are updated with any current delays in clinic.
  • Ensures that exam rooms are stocked and cleaned in accordance with departmental and BCM guidelines.
  • Attends Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses to maintain and enhance ophthalmic technician skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree either AA, BS or BA.
  • Certified as a Retinal Angiographer (CRA) by the Ophthalmic Photographers Society.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT), or Optical Coherence Tomographer-Certified (OCT-C).

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.
