As the City's newest Recreation Leader, you will be expected to actively support and uphold the City's mission, vision, and core values. In this role, you will assume responsibility for facility oversight in the absence of full-time staff, coordinate room setups for classes and programs, and respond to public inquiries by phone. Additional responsibilities include processing fitness center memberships using the City's registration software and performing general custodial duties as assigned.

Examples of the Work Performed

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Opens and closes recreation facilities as needed
  • Assists patrons via phone, email and in person; provides information to the public.
  • Process sales and collects payments via point of sale program for day passes, memberships, and other fees
  • Process registration and the collection of fees via point of sale program for participants program registration
  • Deposits collected fees.
  • Process the booking and payments via point of sale program of facility and outdoor use permits/ rentals
  • Monitors the use of facilities and equipment.
  • Monitors the activities of patrons in the facility
  • Monitors the condition of the facility and ensures that the facility and equipment is safe and usable.
  • Performs basic maintenance, and/or custodial duties as required.
  • Inspects equipment for safety. May inspect facilities pre and post use and initiate maintenance and repairs
  • Demonstrate, teach, and lead assigned recreation programming for all ages and abilities
  • Engage, lead and care for children between ages of 6 months to 17 years old in Kids Club and other programming areas
  • Set up and break down rentals and facility events.
  • Assists with planning and implementing facility special events and programming.
  • Work at assigned community events special events or programming outside of standard facility location
  • Attend and assist with planning and implementing staff meetings and training opportunities.
  • Performs related duties as required

Front Desk: Responsible for overseeing safe and accurate operations of the Front Desk area and point of sale system. Use of point of sale system and preform cash handling including collection of money & funds for facility entry fees, makes correct change, reconciles money at the end of the shift, and operates a cash register. Process sale and collect payments via point of sale program for following day passes, memberships, and other fees. Process registration and the collection of fees via point of sale program for participants program registration Process the booking and payments via point of sale program of facility and outdoor use permits/ rentals. Answering guest questions via telephone, email and in person in a professional and customer service manner. Assists in supervising the work and training of lower level staff, such as recreation assistants, lifeguards, rink guards, cashiers, etc.

Qualifications
  • Experience working with youth and/or vulnerable populations of at least 6 months
  • Experience with mentoring and training lower level staff
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally recognized organization, or can obtain a CPR & First Aid certification within a year of starting employment
  • Current Blood-borne pathogen certification from a nationally recognized originations, or can obtain a Blood-borne certification within a year of starting employment
  • Hepatitis B vaccinations initiated within 1 month of employment and completed within 1 year of starting employment
  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
  • Must have the ability to be contacted and to respond in a timely manner and be willing and able to perform emergency work on an evening or weekend basis.
  • Ability to work split shifts, weekdays, weekends and/or evenings as assigned.
  • Pre-employment background investigation.

Front Desk:

  • Point of sale and cash handling experience of at least 1 year
  • Experience overseeing a meeting space or room of at least 6 months
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures.
  • Experience utilizing office equipment including printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and fax machines of at least 6 months
