Location: We currently have a vacancy located in our Augusta office. This position is 35 hours per week.
Core Responsibilities:
As a Financial Resources Specialist, you will help families improve their lives by providing them access to subsidies for childcare, enabling parents or guardians to be able to work or attend school. You will obtain and evaluate information from families in order to complete determinations and re-determinations of eligibility for childcare subsidies. You will ensure this information is entered into automated client information systems in an accurate and timely manner. You will initiate and monitor payments to providers. You will communicate directly with families and providers in order to obtain information and explain unit, state and federal rules, regulations and policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
A four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or progressively responsible experience performing administrative and/or complex clerical tasks including experience which demonstrates interviewing and data gathering skills as needed to form basis for judgments in eligibility determinations.
The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates should demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Effective communication and customer service skills.
2. Proven ability to prioritize multiple and competing tasks to meet work deadlines.
3. Ability to analyze family information and make eligibility determinations in accordance with established standards.
4. Skilled in the use of standardized desktop technology and products (e-mail, word processing applications, spreadsheets, etc.).

The Office of Child & Family Services (OCFS), within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is responsible for ensuring the safety, permanency and well-being of children and families throughout Maine. The Office of Child and Family Services manages the Child Care Development Block Grant which provides Child Care Subsidy to eligible families. The Unit also evaluates and manages quality initiatives designed to improve the quality of childcare programs for all children.
