Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret medical records to accurately assign ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, and DRG classifications for billing purposes.

  • Prepare and submit claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring all documentation aligns with coding standards.

  • Verify insurance coverage, process payments, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices.

  • Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim statuses, and patient accounts to ensure transparency and accountability.

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies to facilitate accurate billing.

  • Stay updated on changes in medical coding regulations, insurance policies, and billing procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Assist in managing medical records related to billing processes, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation handling.

  • Support the transition to new EMR/EHR systems by providing input on workflows and participating in training sessions as needed.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical terminology, records management, and coding practices.

  • Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, DRG classifications, and medical billing software platforms.

  • Knowledge of medical office procedures including insurance verification, claim submission, and collections.

  • Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and translate it into appropriate codes for billing purposes.

  • Experience working with EMR or EHR systems is highly preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all billing activities.
