Position: Internship - Accounting and Tax

Schwan Financial Group desires to provide you a great learning opportunity. Our small family culture offers to provide the following experiences.

1. Tax Preparation and Compliance

  • Assist with preparing individual and business tax returns (federal, state, and local).
  • Learn to gather, organize, and analyze client financial data to ensure accurate filings.
  • Gain familiarity with tax software, e-filing procedures, and supporting documentation requirements.

2. Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes by reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries.
  • Develop an understanding of how tax implications flow through financial statements.

3. Research and Problem-Solving

  • Conduct basic tax research using IRS publications, state regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Identify potential tax issues or savings opportunities and summarize findings for senior staff.

4. Client Service & Communication

  • Interact with a mentor to collect necessary documentation and clarify financial details.
  • Learn how to explain technical concepts in plain language, enhancing client relationships.

5. Professional Tools & Technology

  • Gain hands-on experience with accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, and common tax preparation platforms).
  • Strengthen Excel skills with pivot tables, lookups, and data-analysis functions.

6. Professional Development

  • Observe the workflow of a CPA firm or tax department, including planning meetings and internal controls.
  • Build time-management and organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines during busy seasons.
