DepartmentBSD OBA -Shubin LabAbout the DepartmentThe Research Professional will lead and manage genomic and embryological studies of vertebrate pattern formation deploying genomic, imaging, and developmental techniques on fish and amphibian species. They will be a point person in the laboratory and work to coordinate and manage different projects along these lines.Job SummaryThe job performs routine assignments that facilitate and promote a research project or contributes to the scientific direction of a research resource. Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from others.ResponsibilitiesAnimal care, husbandry and permitting.Laboratory purchases.Observation and maintenance of lab equipment and reagents.Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis.Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.Trains new laboratory personnel.Oversees the OBA confocal microscopy facility, including regular cleaning and checks on functionality of the machines, computer maintenance and updates, and interfacing with Zeiss service agents.Trains new confocal microscope users and consults with more experienced users as needed.Tracks hours of confocal usage and shares information with OBA office quarterly.Performs experiments and collects and analyzes data. Participates in the promotion of a research project.Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors/authors scientific research manuscripts.
