BSD SUR - Transplant Surgery: Research
About the Department
What our surgeons can achieve in the operating room would not be possible without the ongoing work that is done in our laboratories, and this is especially true in the Section of Transplantation. Our researchers are well known for their basic science research in transplantation tolerance and clinical trial work around islet cell transplantation for diabetes.
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Works with mouse models of transplantation and pregnancy.
Designs, executes, and analyzes experiments involving in vitro cell culture techniques to investigate cellular immune responses.
Applies molecular biology techniques such as RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to study gene expression profiles.
Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage complex data sets for research.
Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
Trains new laboratory personnel.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Competencies
Expertise in cellular immunology including in vitro cell culture techniques, and multiparameter flow cytometry including data analysis.
Advanced knowledge in molecular biology including RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq and retrovirus cell transfection.
Ability to effectively communicate with and train others, including undergraduate and graduate students.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
