Our mission of the Employment Specialist at the Florida Department of Corrections is to empower and support individuals in their transition from incarceration to successful reintegration into society. By providing comprehensive employment services, including job readiness training, career counseling, and job placement assistance, we aim to enhance employability, reduce recidivism, and promote self-sufficiency. Our commitment is to foster a positive and productive future for our clients, contributing to safer communities and a stronger workforce.
JOB DUTIES:
- Meet with offenders to help them find job opportunities and provide life skills and interview classes to boost their chances of employment.
- Work with local stakeholders to create partnerships that offer more job opportunities for those under supervision.
- Organize and lead classes at the probation office to teach offenders how to complete job applications and ace interviews.
- Create a network of employers and jobs tailored to offenders' education, interests, and skills, and educate employers about tax credits for hiring felons.
- Plan and coordinate job fairs regularly to connect offenders with potential employers and help them gain valuable skills and contacts through volunteer work.

REQUIREMENTS:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY
