Position Summary: The Cook/Direct Service Worker provides nutritious meals and direct support to adolescents residing in the group home. This role ensures a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes positive youth development, life skills, and well-being. The position combines daily meal preparation with supervision and mentoring responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities: Meal Preparation and Kitchen Duties

  • Plan, prepare, and serve balanced meals and snacks according to dietary guidelines and youth preferences.
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dining, and storage areas.
  • Monitor food inventory, assist with grocery shopping, and adhere to budget guidelines.
  • Involve youth in meal planning and basic cooking activities to encourage independent living skills.

Direct Service and Youth Support

  • Supervise and engage with youth in daily routines, promoting responsibility, respect, and cooperation.
  • Provide guidance and support with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, chores, and time management.
  • Model and teach positive social skills, coping strategies, and conflict resolution.
  • Participate in recreational, educational, and life-skill activities with residents.
  • Monitor and document youth behavior, progress, and incidents in accordance with program policies.
  • Ensure a safe and structured environment consistent with trauma-informed and strength-based care practices.
  • Administer or assist with medication per training and authorization.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience working with adolescents in residential or behavioral settings (preferred).
  • Previous experience in food preparation, cooking, or dietary services (preferred).
  • Knowledge of child and youth development principles.
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with adolescents.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must pass background checks and meet state licensing requirements.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record (if transportation duties are required).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Work Environment:

  • Group home / residential setting for adolescents.
  • Schedule is Monday-Friday 6:30a-12p
  • Moderate physical activity; may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to normal kitchen and household environments.

Pay: Up to $13.00 per hour
