Job Summary:

Stepping Stones Child Care Center is an innovative child development center that provides early childhood care and education to children and families ages birth-twelve. Our center operates extended hours including weekends to accommodate all schedules for working families. We strive to create a warm, safe, nurturing, and high-quality environment for the children in our care.

Job Responsibilities:

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Assist the Director with daily center operations and administrative tasks.
  • Support scheduling, staff communication, and coordination of classroom coverage.
  • Help maintain compliance with licensing regulations and center policies.
  • Track and update attendance, ratios, and daily staffing needs.
  • Support with onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff as needed.
  • Assist with organizing and documenting professional development hours.
  • Help monitor inventory and supply needs for classrooms and office areas.
  • Communicate with families as needed to support smooth daily operations.
  • Step in for the Director during short absences.

Classroom Support & Coverage

  • Be trained in all classrooms and provide coverage where needed.
  • Maintain positive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate interactions with children.
  • Support teachers in implementing daily routines and curriculum.
  • Ensure classroom environments remain safe, organized, and compliant.
  • Model best practices in supervision, engagement, and classroom management.
  • Offer feedback and support to classroom teams as requested by the Director.

Leadership & Team Collaboration

  • Serve as a bridge between classroom staff and administration.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Help identify areas for operational improvement and suggest solutions.
  • Support the Director in preparing for meetings, events, and family communication.
  • Encourage adherence to center values, policies, and performance expectations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • 2+ years' experience in the field of early childhood care and education as a lead teacher and/or administrative experience as an assistant director. Specifically with children ages birth to twelve.
  • An associate degree, CDA (Child Development Associate), or higher education degree in a related field (child development, early childhood education, family studies, psychology) and at least 30 clock hours of approved Utah Early Childhood Career Ladder courses in child development, social and emotional development, and childcare environments.
  • If you have no degree or CDA, you must be willing to obtain your CDA within 6 months of hire.
  • Must pass a Utah Child Care Licensing Background Check.
  • Complete and maintain current CPR/First Aid and Food Handlers Permit certifications.
  • Obtain required training upon hire per Utah Child Care Licensing: Preservice training that consists of 2.5 hours of training before assuming lead teacher duties.
  • Complete 20 Hours of annual training including Utah Child Care Licensing topics, career ladder courses on: child development, ages and stages administration, working with families, culturally and linguistically appropriate practices to meet the developmental needs of children and understanding appropriate practices to engage with families.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal laws governing childcare.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic always.
  • Ability to work as a team member with other staff and with families of children in care.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous knowledge of Utah Child Care Licensing rules and regulations.
  • Previous experience working with at risk children and families preferred.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Full-time position with a tentative 4/10 schedule (10:00 am – 8:00 pm).
  • One Operations Coordinator will cover the first half of the week (Sunday–Wednesday), and the other will cover the second half of the week (Wednesday–Saturday).
  • Flexibility is required — coordinators may need to stay later on occasion to assist with unexpected classroom coverage or operational needs.

Compensation

Annual Salary between $38,000 - $45,000 DOE
