Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
The Patient Services Representative (PSR) serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing exceptional customer service and administrative support in a fast-paced medical office. This role is essential in ensuring a smooth patient experience from check-in to check-out, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
- Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations or referrals.
- Collect and process co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances.
- Maintain accurate patient records and update demographic and insurance information.
- Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and route messages appropriately.
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure timely patient flow.
- Handle medical records requests in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support administrative tasks such as scanning, faxing, and filing.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical office training preferred.
- 4-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes is a plus.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
