POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Maintenance & Operations Assistant to the team This full-time position will be located in the parks of our Central Region and will perform daily routine maintenance tasks, such as general groundskeeping, custodial work and general laborer work. This includes but is not limited to upkeep of parks, facility areas, and greenway system trailheads. The incumbent will be a key member of our Park Operations team and will work with other maintenance staff to ensure our parks remain premier locations for community events and recreation. Typical schedule will include weekday daytime hours but may include occasional weekends based on business needs.
Region Specific Information: The Central Region Maintenance & Operations Assistants will cover parks located in Central Charlotte, or Uptown area of Charlotte. A few of the parks within the Central Region are First Ward Park, Romare Bearden Park, and Freedom Park. These venues host many large-scale community events each year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Groundskeeping experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
- Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
- Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
- Perform general custodial work
- Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
- Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: No experience required
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: Yes
Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges
Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work
Skills:
- Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers and other assigned equipment
- Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
Abilities:
- Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures
- Collaboration: Working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining good working relationships
