Position Summary

This role involves collaborating with Duke Energy management and various business units, including regulated utilities, corporate affairs, communications, tax, and finance. The objective is to identify and prioritize federal policy opportunities, formulate company positions on these issues, and design and execute advocacy strategies to achieve these goals. The candidate will communicate and advocate the company's positions to Congress, the Administration, and relevant federal agencies as necessary. This position reports to the Managing Director of Federal Government Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear direction and guidance to team and consultants, manage planning and budgeting processes, and promote high morale, performance, and effective teamwork within the department and the company.
  • Establish well-conceived positions on the company's federal priorities and strategic interests and effectively communicate these positions to the appropriate members of Congress and their staff
  • Maintain and sustain effective relationships with members of Congress and their staff, including the North Carolina Congressional delegation.
  • Build strong relationship with the North Carolina state president's organization to understand and advance their priorities.
  • Monitor Congressional and Executive Branch actions, alerting and advising upper management, Federal Government and Corporate Affairs partners, consultants, and business units about policy and political developments that could impact the company. Ensure accurate and timely analysis and tracking of relevant policies.
  • Enhance Duke Energy's visibility and leadership within industry trade associations and coalitions.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree AND five (5) or more years of related work experience, including three or more years of experience working for a federal agency, a relevant Congressional committee, a member of Congress serving on a relevant Congressional Committee, or the Administration (Regulatory and Legislative)

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public policy, economics, MBA, or Juris Doctorate.
  • Over 5 years of federal energy regulatory, legislative, and policymaking experience.
  • Significant experience with federal legislative staff, processes, and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional team settings.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex topics to business, governmental, and general audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute advocacy plans both within and outside of government.

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification: Work will be performed at a designated company facility
  • Travel: Domestic overnight travel at least once a month to Charlotte or other business areas

Base Salary:

$140-160k

Salary is determined on a variety of factors, including but not limited to: responsibilities of role, years of related experience, and internal equity. Base salary amount may come in at any point of the range listed. Total compensation, including additional bonuses, will vary based on bonus eligibility and company benefits.
