Director of Software Engineering

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a
Director of Software Engineering
for our client, a fast-growing technology company

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering organization, setting the technical direction, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable solutions for the Platform. This role requires a deep technical understanding, strong leadership, and a strategic vision to drive the engineering team towards innovation and operational excellence. The Director of Engineering collaborates closely with product, design, and other teams to support the company's goals, foster a high-performance culture, and continually enhance the platform's capabilities to meet customer needs.

What you'll be doing:

• Technical Strategy & Vision: Define and champion the long-term technical strategy, ensuring alignment with company goals and market needs. Drive innovation, best practices, and forward-looking decisions that strengthen platform scalability, security, and reliability.
• Architecture & Systems Design: Lead architectural planning to support sustainable growth, high performance, and maintainability. Set standards for system design that balance immediate product needs with long-term technical health.
• Product Development & Delivery: Oversee end-to-end software development, ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery of features and enhancements. Optimize development processes through agile methodologies, automation, and continuous integration.
• Leadership & Talent Development: Build, coach, and retain a high-performing engineering organization. Cultivate an inclusive and collaborative environment where engineers at all levels can grow and do their best work.
• Resource & Budget Stewardship: Allocate budgets, staffing, and technical resources effectively. Make data-driven decisions around hiring, tooling, and infrastructure to maximize ROI and support scalable growth.
• Risk, Security & Compliance: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and operational risks. Ensure all engineering practices meet industry standards for compliance, data protection, and security.

Qualifications:

• Proven Engineering Leadership: 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of modern software architectures, cloud platforms (AWS), scalable systems, and best practices in security, reliability, and performance. Experience Go and React preferred.
• Product & Delivery Management: Experience leading end-to-end software development, including agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and high-quality product delivery. Familiarity with Jira for workflow and project management.
• Budget & Resource Management: Experience managing engineering budgets and resources efficiently, optimizing for ROI.

Preferred:

• Experience in SaaS or platform-based companies, preferably with multi-tenant or large-scale distributed systems.
• Exposure to AI, machine learning, or hybrid human/AI platforms.

Compensation:
Base compensation is estimated between $180,000 and $200,000 annually, depending on experience, plus bonus.
