The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. The maximum salary range is reserved for candidates that far exceed the required and preferred qualifications for the role.
Position Overview: The Division of Strategy and Curriculum Standards Alignment supports the State Board of Education's content creation for the K-12 curriculum standards known as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS.
The Deputy Director of TEKS Content Support coordinates the work of the TEKS content team and performs advanced managerial work, including providing direction, guidance, and leadership to a team of curriculum content experts to support the creation and development of the TEKS. This position will serve as a resource to the Advisory Committee, workgroups, and the State Board of Education. This role will incorporate the guidance of the Advisory Committee and workgroups to TEKS development and revisions. Additionally, this position's work includes composing, editing, and reviewing advanced technical documents such as SBOE agenda items, internal and external policy communications, and curriculum standards.
The Deputy Director of TEKS Content Support reports to the Division Director of Strategy and Curriculum Standards Alignment within the Office of School Programs, closely partnering with the division's management team and staff from other divisions to provide support and guidance from programs required by state law or rule. The Deputy Director will also be responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating the work of a team of content experts.
Seasonal presence in Austin during State Board of Education (SBOE) meetings and legislative session, as well as additional dates as requested is required.

Essential Functions
Job duties are not limited to the essential functions mentioned below. You may perform other functions as assigned.
1. TEKS Writing, Review, and Implementation: Oversees processes related to the writing and revision of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for all grades and foundation subject areas including interaction with content advisors, work groups, and presentations during State Board of Education meetings. Reviews additional TEKS for alignment. Supports alignment with enrichment courses and House Bill 1605.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Oversees stakeholder engagement, support, and technical assistance for effective implementation of the TEKS and updates related to state law and rule. Works to ensure TEKS are measurable and aligned. Provides support for alignment with enrichment courses. Disseminates legislative updates to ensure alignment with state law.
3. Team Management and Supervision: Leads, supervises, and develops a team of staff, ensuring staff have the necessary direction and resources to function efficiently and effectively, and to consistently meet high expectations for outcomes-based performance management. Fosters a positive, productive, and collaborative team culture.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
- Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in the education sector with experience in portfolio, program, and/or project management
- Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience
Other Qualifications

- Experience supervising direct reports or leading cross-functional teams
- Prior experience in a leadership role with responsibility for team performance and outcomes
- Experience in project management or strategy and implementation with internal teams, client and/or vendor-facing roles
- Ability to effectively organize and complete multiple projects simultaneously, communicate across internal teams, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks to deliver quality products
- Ability to independently assess, and provide recommendations on risks and issues related to high impact, fast paced projects
- Core project management skills, including planning, coordination, progress monitoring, issue resolution, and change management
- Clear and efficient verbal and written communication skills with various audiences and design and delivery of effective presentations and other public-facing documents
- Ability to build relationships and communicate respectfully with vendors, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders (teachers, Education Service Centers, LEA leaders, SBOE members)
- A desire to self-reflect, give and receive feedback, and focus on continuous improvement
- Ability to complete additional project activities as assigned to meet team and office goals
