JOIN OUR MEDA TEAM

Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting economic development and job creation in San Francisco's Mission District. Founded in 1973, MEDA has a long history of serving the community by providing access to capital, technical assistance, and training programs for entrepreneurs and small businesses. We also partner with individuals and families to build lasting prosperity through housing stabilization, small business support, workforce development, financial coaching, and education support. Rooted in San Francisco's Mission District, we've seen how economic opportunity transforms lives—and we're expanding that impact to communities nationwide.

YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITY

In 2022, MEDA launched the Housing Stabilization & Eviction Defense (HSED) program to provide culturally competent, bilingual legal services that prevent displacement and promote housing stability. As part of our effort to strengthen client access and streamline services, MEDA is seeking an Intake Specialist to join our HSED team.

This new position is a key front-line role responsible for improving how MEDA connects with community members and triages them to the right programs and services. Working alongside Promotoras at MEDA's Front Desk, the Intake Specialist will ensure that every existing and potential client walking into MEDA receives a comprehensive and consistent intake experience to then efficiently refer inquiries to HSED counsel and other MEDA-relevant personnel. The Specialist will help identify client needs, determine eligibility for MEDA support services, support Promotoras in conducting thorough screenings, and ensure that data is accurately collected and recorded in MEDA's systems.

The ideal candidate is bilingual in English and Spanish, deeply familiar with San Francisco's housing and social service landscape, and passionate about helping families access critical resources to remain stable and thrive in their community.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct and oversee initial client intake interviews to determine service eligibility across MEDA programs, with a focus on legal services for housing stabilization and eviction prevention.
  • Optimize, formalize, and manage the client intake and flow processes across programs to ensure effective data collection & quality, consistent client experience, and reporting efficiency.
  • Support Promotoras by modeling best practices for client screening and ensuring consistent use of intake protocols and scripts.
  • Systematically refer clients to appropriate internal programs (e.g., workforce, financial capability, housing counseling) or external partners when client needs fall outside MEDA's scope.
  • Maintain a welcoming, client-centered front desk environment that upholds MEDA's values of respect, inclusion, and empowerment.
  • Monitor preliminary data quality, ensuring that clients complete their own intake surveys whenever possible and ensure accurate and consistent entry of intake data into Salesforce and other client management systems.
  • Collect, review, and analyze intake trends to help identify common eviction risk factors and service needs.
  • Collaborate with program managers to strengthen data integrity and support grant implementation, reporting, and evaluation efforts.
  • Work closely with the HSED legal team to prioritize clients facing imminent displacement and coordinate follow-up appointments.
  • Collaborate with Promotoras and program teams to improve communication and service alignment.
  • Participate in team debriefs and client case reviews to identify emerging needs and improve intake operations.
  • Support the development and ongoing refinement of intake tools, scripts, and training materials for Promotoras and Coaches.
  • Contribute to MEDA's organizational learning by sharing insights from client interactions that can inform program design and outreach strategies.
  • Collaborate with other Mission District organizations to strengthen referral pathways and ensure coordinated client support.
  • Help promote awareness of MEDA's programs through brochures, outreach events, and other client-facing materials.

YOUR KEYS TO SUCCESS

To perform successfully in this role, you will need to leverage these key qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (verbal and written).
  • Experience in client intake, case management, or direct service work in a community-based organization.
  • Basic understanding of residential tenant-landlord law, eviction process, and social service navigation in San Francisco.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate empathetically with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or other CRM platforms.
  • Commitment to MEDA's mission of advancing socioeconomic equity for low-income, underserved communities.
  • High degree of independence, initiative, responsibility, and accountability
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing economic equity and housing stability for Latino and immigrant communities.
