    Salary: $ $26.23

    Purpose: In coordination with the classroom teacher and special services staff provide 1:1 and/or small group assistance in the self-contained or other specialized programs offered through special services to support students' potential to access regular and special education programs and academics.

    Program: IAP Integrated Academic Program 

    Essential Functions:
    1. Implement specialized and / or adaptive procedures and curriculum materials as instructed by the teacher.
    2. Prepare and utilize appropriate materials for use with students.
    3. Implement individual education plans (IEP) as designated.
    4. Provide for the physical needs of students which may include catheterization, bathrooming, diapering, handling body fluids, lifting, and transferring students.
    5. Maintains appropriate records as instructed by the teacher or other special services staff.
    6. Collect and record student data. Provide progress reports to teacher.
    7. Support and implement behavioral plans with students.
    8. Assist with the adaptation of classroom materials.
    9. Facilitate independent working, social, and self-help skills.
    10. Provide first aid to students as needed in an emergency.
    11 . Provide physical restraint as needed.
    12. Other related duties as assigned to support the success of the students and the classroom.

    Professional Qualifications:
    1. High school diploma or equivalent AND 72 quarter/48 semester credits OR AA/AS degree OR pass the state exam for paraprofessionals.
    2. Instructional paraprofessionals, as defined by the state per WAC , are required to complete the Fundamental Course of Study and General Certificate per the state guidelines.
    3. Experience working with special needs students in an educational setting.
    4. Demonstrated academic proficiency comparable to assigned grade and subject areas.
    4. Basic knowledge of sign language preferred.
    5. Basic computer skills to include MS Office software and data base entry.
    6. Acquire and maintain first aid/CPR certification.
    7. Acquire and maintain training in the appropriate use of physical restraints.

    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
    1. Stand for long periods of time.
    2. Stoop, bend, walk, run.
    3. Work in noisy environments.
    4. Physically assist students.
    5. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Work Environment:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing.  The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

    Benefits:
    School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters and of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible.     Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
