ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB's Atlanta, GA office is hiring a Transportation Planning Intern to join the Transportation Systems team for Summer 2026.
Candidates should have an interest in transportation planning and/or traffic engineering and desire to support a wide range of planning studies that include multimodal planning, community planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, transit planning, corridors analysis, and coordination of public involvement and agency outreach efforts.
Responsibilities
- Conduct planning assessments using analytical tools such as GIS to evaluate data, identify trends, and develop documentation to summarize results
- Assistance with development of support materials for public involvement programs and attendance of public meetings as needed
- Support of project-related documentation for a range of transportation planning studies, traffic operations projects, grant initiatives, and multi-modal / transit-oriented projects.
- Performance of field data collection and other on-site project support activities
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- The ability to manage multiple assignments and work in a team environment
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
- Excellent attention to detail
- Some knowledge and experience in data analysis tools such as ArcGIS and Excel
- Experience with common software tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and graphics software such as Adobe Creative Suite
Qualifications
- Interest in transportation planning and/or traffic engineering
- Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in planning or related field
