Youth Fitness Program Manager

Organization: Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln (PHL)

Status: Grant-funded | 30–35 hours/week (Benefits eligible at 30+ hours)

Position Summary

PHL is seeking a highly motivated professional to lead a community-wide initiative focused on increasing youth physical activity and fitness in Lincoln, Nebraska, with a priority on neighborhoods and schools where physical fitness rates are lowest, as identified by Community Health Endowment's Place Matters maps.

This position serves as the central coordinator for a multi-partner effort involving PHL, YMCA of Lincoln, Nebraska Sports Council, schools, afterschool programs, public health, healthcare and other community partners. The role emphasizes relationship-building, community engagement, strategic coordination, sustainability planning, and grant implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead coordinator for a community-wide youth fitness initiative, aligning partners, timelines, and shared goals.
  • Convene and facilitate monthly Leadership Team meetings with backbone partners (PHL, YMCA, Nebraska Sports Council).
  • Re-engage and support the Youth Fitness Task Force and engage youth and parent representatives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee listening sessions with youth and parents to identify barriers and community-driven solutions.
  • Cultivate partnerships with schools, afterschool programs, public health, healthcare and community organizations to advance youth fitness strategies and pilot projects.
  • Oversee development of a community-wide branding and awareness campaign in collaboration with partners and PHL communications staff.
  • Lead development of a long-term sustainability and funding strategy in collaboration with backbone partners and funders.
  • Manage grant deliverables, timelines, quarterly reporting, and contribute to an annual community report in coordination with PHL finance, evaluation, and communications teams and backbone partners.
  • Represent the initiative at community meetings, partner convenings, and public events.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Background in sports, fitness, public health, education, recreation, or related field.
  • Experience in program management, community engagement, marketing, and/or partnership development.
  • Strong relationship-building, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.

Pay: $52, $66,000.00 per year
